MacBook Sleeve by Tucano
I received the black Tucano sleeve for my MacBook from MacHeaven last weekend. Just like my previous sleeve from incase, the Tucano (Second Skin Folder) sleeve is also made of neoprene.

More after the jump.
The Tucano sleeve was definitely designed with the 13″ MacBook in mind. Not only does it provide a snug fit for the MacBook but it also features an inner liner in the zip area to protect the MacBook from scratches from the opening and closing of the zip itself.

While I’m very pleased to finally have a proper sleeve to carry my MacBook around, my experience with MacHeaven.co.uk fell slightly short of my expectations. They are over-cautious with accepting card payments and were not willing to put my order through unless I gave them my landline telephone number. They claimed this was routine procedure and that they used the landline number to verify that I reside at the cardholder’s address.
I appreciate that this certainly protects the card holder from online fraud, but I just don’t see the need for it. Matching the cardholder’s address to the credit card is surely good enough: Should something go wrong, card holders are already covered by the credit card company anyway. So if you are planning to order from MacHeaven, be warned, specially if you don’t have a landline telephone.
However, if you are considering getting a case for your MacBook/Laptop, I would definitely recommend a sleeve over any other type of case. Unlike with a traditional case, a sleeve lets you carry your notebook in your backpack or messenger bag along with everything else without anyone knowing that you are carrying an all expensive MacBook!

I am looking at getting one of these sleeves. How thick is the material? I had a Bitolithic sleeve for my iBook which was 1.5mm thick which is perfect for me as I am only after scratch protection. Is the Tucano sleeve as thin as the Bitolithic?

Nathan, I don’t think the sleeve is as slim as 1.5mm. It feels like at least 3mm. I’ll try and measure the thickness properly later today if I manage to get hold of a micrometer.

It is just over 2.5mm thick. I wouldn’t think that the 1mm difference in thickness is very noticeable. However, I think the Bitolithic comes with a screen protector as a bonus! It’s a shame they are sold out.
