The Camera with Two Lenses
January 2nd, 2006
Due to be unveiled at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in a few days, the Kodak V570 features an ultra wide angle lens and a 3x optical zoom lens both in one compact camera.
Such a camera (with two lenses) would normally require a complex mechanism to position each of the required lens in front of the CCD sensor in turn. However, the V570 overcomes this complexity by using two CCD sensors, one for each lens! This arrangement also allows for continuous operation when switching from ultra wide angle mode to zoom mode. Therefore, as Engadget so clearly puts it, ‘you don’t have to press any buttons to use one lens or the other, you just zoom in and out as you normally would.’
Full Specifications and schematics of the lens arrangements are available on the imaging resource website.
